Finally, the day has come. After i left practice in Zaid Ibrahim & Co, i was never fully employed except as a research assistant to my lecturers. Obviously, the monthly allowance were never enough to feed or sustain a small family. Big thanks to my forever-ever understanding wife and my Melaka family for their moral and financial support.
Faculty of Law, UiTM
1 February 2012 marked a new phase in my life. I reported duty to the Faculty of Law, and ready to contribute to the society in different way a place where i spent wonderful years as its student. I joined as its matriculation students in 2000 and the rest is history. This was also the place where i met my girlfriend, who is now my wife.
The first meeting or should i say a ‘prep talk’ with the Dean was cut short because of the Vice Chancellor’s dialogue with the Faculty. So, i passively participated in the session.
After the dialogue, i mingled around with the Faculty’s members and made new friends. There were familiar faces as well the new ones. However, the one missing was my all-time favourite lecturer who is also known as John Gray in Twitterjaya who is in Melaka. Despite what have been said about him, I still respect him and heck, he came for my long-call in Shah Alam in 2008 (and my wedding too). Where ever he is, I hope he is doing fine and hope he can re-join the Faculty soon.
InsyaAllah, year 2012 marks the new beginning in my life. I hope i can do the best for myself, family, and UiTM. I may not be perfect, but i will keep trying to be one. I will always remember what my mom told me, “Biar orang buat kita, jangan kita buat orang”.
Political inclination
Contrary to anyone’s expectation that i am a pro-opposition, i am now an objective person. Or at least, trying to be one. In my opinion, expressing your unwavering sympathy or inclination toward certain political parties does not bring much good. Political parties are the biggest hypocritical creature of democracy, if not the worst. Especially in Malaysia. I came from a family that also buys Harakah or Keadilan Daily, apart from the mainstream newspapers. We also watch Buletin Utama just like other average ordinary family. My late grandparents in Sik were PAS staunch supporters. However, my later grandfather in Melaka was on the contrary. This provided me with a blend of understanding and more of balance views whenever any political issues cropped out. My take is very simple: right is always right, and vice versa. BN can never be always wrong, neither do Pakatan. Both also have its flaws and sometime there were incorrigible.
Enough said.

Ok. This post may be obsolete because the 9 July rally has been successfully (or at least some faction thought it was) conducted where thousands of people came together in unison to voice out their 8 sacred demands. Kudos to them.
I am all for free and fair election. In fact, i personally support the 8 demands by Bersih group.
Few incidents occurred where the police had taken exceptionally ‘extreme’ measures in containing the protesters. Unfortunately, one of them died while running away from FRU. Al-Fatihah to arwah Baharudin.
I will not delve further on this issue except that i wish no other similar rally being held in the future. Or if they do, do it at a place where crowd control is possible. A week of road-blocks had caused many inconvenience to other innocent by-standers who wish not be drawn into the rally. A friend tweeted a mother had to deliver her baby in car while her car stuck at Federal Highway. True or fiction of this story is disputable but we must not discount the possibility, aren’t we? Parents were late to send their children to school, ambulance were late in reaching its destination, some had to cancel earlier appointments/weddings/functions because of the road blocks. You may blame the police for erecting these silly road blocks. But, who instigated the police to do that in the first place? Now that there is no road block, and do you know why? Because there is no planned rally ahead. Yes, you may say that you have the right to freedom of expression. However, does this right is so sacred and untouchable? Had you became the federal government of the day, wouldn’t you do the same to manage silent dissents? Our democracy is still way too young to be compared to other advanced countries like the US or UK. Racism bigotry and hatred by some irresponsible parties (go figure!).
I remember reading one letter to The Star written by one of its readers expressing displeasure how the Bersih was being used by political tool to gain political mileage. He gave a very simple analogy how PAS, PKR and DAP’s leaders were elected by the so-called democratic election. Again, go figure!
On the other hand, I sincerely hope the 8 demands could be done some better way. It could and should be done. I also disagree how the authorities was using force to disperse the crowds. Yes, i’ve also watched the police’s version of the story/videos but I will not buy it. More like it made fools of the police themselves. There are more videos on Youtube which show how the police exerted violence in some circumstances.
The government, if it is a “government of the people, by the people, for the people” should listen and at least respond to the demands in intellectual way and not by brushing them off in total. There should be a room for more discussion. Eventually, every government want to be chosen via free and fair means to add to its credibility. Takkan itu pun susah nak buat?
I am not being apologetic for writing this. I’ve said it and i will keep on this because i believe that is the way (supposedly). I am not a cyber-trooper paid by anyone. Just an innocent observation and thoughts.
Until next time. Ciao!
Don’t know what to write!
Alhamdulillah, i passed all my subjects. Thanks to the dedicated lecturers, friends and not forgetting, my wife and Adam for their unwavering understanding and support.
Love you guys!
It has been a while since I posted something on Tumblr. Not that I am lazy to write, it is just that I practically have nothing to share.
Finally my tenure as a research assistant to Pn Rohani has come to an end. It was really enjoyable working with her and I learnt quite a lot about doing research/writing in journal. And I’m also quite an expert in looking for research materials.
I decided to continue my service with twintech college as a part time tutor and was hoping that I could extra cash (since they just revised my hourly rate to RM60/hour). But to my astonishment, based on my new timetable, I get to teach only for 4 hours. This is very low compared to previous semester. Assuming I will be teaching 4 hours in full, I could only get rm240 per week. Now I have to look for Plan B, which is to find other college to teach.
Today, I just submitted my resume to 2 private institutions in Shah Alam.Hope I will get to teach there as a part timer.
Raya is just around the corner, with approx 50 days before first Ramadhan. As a father and husband, my main concern is how to have extra cash for the celebration. Seriously, the reduced teaching hours really de-rail my plan. May Allah show me guidance and give me strength embrace this challenge. Amin
